Character Should Come Before Art

Character cannot come from art,
But art can come from character
Art will always come from character
That includes bad art
It is not even as swift as a work
Of the subconscious
There is no need to tally such dormant
Doorbells with mango juice, top shelf

You will always feed on yourself
You cannot disturb yourself,
Unless your invite self-suffering
For your art.

I wouldn’t recommend it.
Your art is inanimate.
It will never love you back.
Character on the other hand
Will get you through unexpected
Tribulations – such things are the art of God

Character is far more valuable
Than art, being protected from
A protestor’s paint; an artist’s brush

This a weak poem.
Not really a poem at all.
But it needed to be said.
And if it needs to be said
Then it can be a poem.
