The New Birth of Dignitaries
Testing the saints for greater warmth
New dogs for old days,
Testing, and conflagration
Redeemed on porch steps
Too soft to be petals of dreams
Or the secure witness of our broken wheel
Designed by atrocious feeling
And be-mirthed by frozen lily stems
Docile and un-tempted by the stalwart tide
Now that we are older
The sun is harder
It cannot be broken
